A Guy Walks Into a Bar…
… and sees a broad-shouldered man sitting there in a cute little cocktail dress. He says…
Well, what does he say?
Most people stare open-mouthed or look away quickly, embarrassed, not sure what to say. Some laugh, snicker, or point from a polite distance. A few become confrontationally unpleasant.
Fewer still stop to chat.
My hope is that after reading Coming Out Can Be Murder, the next time you see a transgender person you will establish eye contact and say hello. And maybe even strike up a conversation.
In a better world, a straight guy walks into a bar, sees his best friend and former linebacker of
the football team sitting there in a cute little cocktail dress. He sits on the stool next his friend
and says, “I like that color on you. How about those Cubs!”
It’s okay. The straight guy’s still straight. His transgender friend values his friendship.
The earth still rotates on its axis and circles the sun in a comfortably irregular orbit.
